Wilson nPro Open Tennis Racquet

Wilson nCode nPro Open Tennis Racquet Review

Tennis Magazine

FIRST TAKE:
An all-court racquet for aggressive players who like to put plenty of pace and spin on their shots.

COMPARE TO:
Wilson nPro Surge

HOW IT TESTED:
When you initially pick up the nPro Open 100 you might think this is a grinder’s racquet in the lineage of the Hammer family. It feels like there’s plenty of weight in the top of the frame, which would favor heavy baseline hitters with big swings. But don’t be fooled by first impressions. While you can do damage off the ground, this stick is actually rather head light, making it equally effective at net. Volleys had a soft feel with plenty of control and limited vibration, which can be attributed to its nanofoam and Double Hole technology. These features, along with a slight bump up in weight, are what separate the nPro Open 100 from the older nPro Surge. Throw that in with solid net play and glowing tester reviews in the serving department and you’ve got a great frame for doubles specialists. Some did feel, however, that the power at times overshadowed the control, making it unreliable from the baseline. Still, if you’re a competitive player looking for a little extra punch, it might be a worthwhile trade-off.

BOTTOM LINE:
If you like to rip it, the power is there in buckets.

nCode, an exclusive Wilson nano technology process, takes tennis beyond the merely possible.  Because nCode releases untapped performance from within the racquet to deliver unparallel stability, greater frame integrity and explosive power.  At 10-9, or one-billionth of a meter, the nano scale is too small to see.  But the difference in an nCoded racquet's playability is too big to ever forget.

With nano technology, Wilson broke the atomic code of the racquet to create a new class of frames.  This revolutionary process, striking new frame design and new string bed technology (nZone) combine to deliver greater life, power and playability.

Racquets are made of billions of carbon fibers linked together and heatshaped.  These carbon fibers are strong, light and resilient.  Nevertheless, at the nanoscopic level voids exist between the individual fibers which create stress points.  By reinforcing the molecular structure of the frame and filling these voids, nCode technology improves a racquet's playability while preserving it's unique playing characteristics.
