How it tested: The original V1 was the Cadillac of comfort and Porsche of power when it established Volkl as a serious tennis racquet brand in 1995. It has more horsepower and holds the road better on twisty turns, duet largely to Volkl's sensor handle system in the shaft that dampens the shock and vibration that comes with hard shots. In addition, Power Bridge technology, which fortifies the racquet with strong carbon fibers in the 6 o'clock position of the frame's head, increases stability on off-center fits and enhances power and control. The racquet also comes in a 110-square-inch version for players who frequently hit off the frame.

How does Powerbridge work?
The secret of POWERBRIDGE lies in two components. The first is the tried-and-tested DNX technology, which is now being used in the bridge of the racket head for the first time. Second, the designers at V�lkl Tennis have succeeded in reducing the cross-section of the bridge without losing stability. The quantity of expansion resin which functions as the binding agent to bond the yoke to the rest of the frame to form a unit remains completely unchanged here. The only difference is the higher compaction of the matrix. In conjunction with the power features of DNX this compression produces an enormously solid composite material which optimizes the heart of the racket, thereby investing the entire racket with more power.
