How it tested: With controllable power, manageable weight and a comfortable response, the Red line of racquets has always appealed to a wide range of players. This latest edition follows in that tradition. What’s different is the Energy Bridge, carbon fiber strips that run through the middle of the racquet’s hoop to create a virtually suspended string bed. It’s designed to reduce feedback from the frame, enhance the feel of the ball on the strings, and increase the size of the sweet spot. Playtesters certainly didn’t struggle with off-center hits and found all the power they needed, especially on serves. Control was good as long as you didn’t take a huge swing or put a lot of spin on your shots. The large sweet spot makes touch around the net easy, but the racquet is even better on volley and overhead putaways. The Red really shines at contact, where you’ll find a forgiving response.

Bottom line: A great option for solid intermediates or aging advanced players who want a comfortable frame.
